THE EYE WITNESS
BY ARTSOUL KOJO

April 06, 2017

ARTIST STATEMENT

“My art is an expression of my visions and imagination. I channel my ideas through whatever medium suits the outcome and clearly expresses the vision in mind. I am inspired by constant reflection on my life and my immediate encounters with society. As intriguing as it is searching for a purpose in life, I find myself coming up with a lot of alternate narratives that are primarily questioning in their intent. In order to investigate these concepts visually I developed a signature character called “the eye witness” – a sort of representative of story tellers that observe and recount these alternate realities.”

The idea behind the eye witness exhibition was to recreate a physical representation of that very experience and to initiate a dialogue on what the ideal nature of the unknown would feel like to any given individual. To this end, the illustration is likely to represent whoever or whatever you want it to.

The exhibition also explored the concept of dualism and paid particular attention to designing an aesthetically pleasing virtual space that blends spatial design with art.

The subject matter of each body of work determines the materials and the forms of the work. Each project often consists of multiple works, usually in a range of different media, grouped around specific themes and meanings. During research and production, new areas of interest arise which mostly lead to the next body of work.”
